McCarver Historic Tales Contest Sponsored by the Robertson County Historical Commission Background: The Robertson County Historical Commission received an endowment from the Norman (“Nonie”) L. McCarver, Jr. Estate. It was understood that this fund would sponsor an appropriate event to honor Nonie’s devotion to Hearne and her history. Since one of Nonie’s accomplishments was winning a Young Authors Award given by the prestigious Southwest Historic Quarterly in his high school senior year , it seems only fitting to sponsor a contest that would reward a young budding writer. Purpose: McCarver Historic Tales is a creative writing contest for students eligible for graduation. It is designed to encourage students to investigate their hometown history and use their imagination and creative writing style to tell a ‘tall tale’ including themselves as an active participant or observer of a local event. The winner of this year's contest is Matt Kamas of Franklin. |
